Hi, I'm Mao.
Born in a Cambodian refugee camp in Thailand, I immigrated to St. Catharines, Ontario, before moving to Ottawa for university. Though I began my studies in the sciences at the University of Ottawa, I soon discovered my passion for business. While earning my Advanced Diploma in Business Administration and a Graduate Certificate in Event Management, I helped transform an award-winning salon into a thriving million-dollar enterprise.

Since 2013, I’ve been dedicated to Algonquin College, currently serving as the Online Learning Administrative Coordinator and contributing to the Event Management Program as a professor. Beyond my college work, I consult with a trendy high-end salon in the heart of the Byward Market, Ottawa’s vibrant capital district. Although based in Ottawa, I find myself drawn back to Toronto as often as possible.

Midway through last year, a significant life change plunged me into a journey of self-discovery and healing—I hope that my journey can help guide others facing similar struggles. My journey was supported by EMDR therapy and psychotherapy, traditional and holistic medicine, and a lot of reflection, reading, meditation and connecting with those who have experienced similar trauma. This is my story to tell, and I hope it inspires others.

Outside of work, I focus on documenting my life’s journey through various social media channels, exploring self-care, and making time for family, friends, and my golden doodle, Lily. I live a healthy lifestyle—free from drinking, smoking, or drugs. The quote that best describes me is: "the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." I live boldly and love deeply. Join me as I continue to grow, explore, and create, always with a commitment to positivity.
